Course Introduction

The Programme of study leading to the Master of Development Planning Degree shall be a full-time course, consisting of two academic semesters organized over one academic year. The MDevPlan is an advanced degree designed to help students strengthen their subject knowledge and skills related to the development planning theories and practices. It can also position educators to move into leadership roles, becoming school principals, policymakers, or higher education administrators, among other opportunities.

The MDevPlan degree programme conducted by the Department of Geography, hereafter referred to as "the Department", under the Faculty of Graduate Studies, hereafter referred to as "the Faculty", consists of development planning as the main study area. The Faculty of Graduate Studies shall offer the Master of Development Planning degree.

Eligibility Requirements
  • First Degree (SLQF Level 06/SLQF Level 05) in the discipline of Social Sciences from a recognized university.

     OR
  • First Degree (SLQF Level 06/SLQF Level 05) in any discipline which includes 30 credits related to the subject of Social Sciences from a recognized university.
  • Completion of NVQ level 7 in the field of development planning as determined by the relevant BOS and approved by the Senate, University of Ruhuna.
  • First Degree (SLQF Level 06/SLQF Level 05) or NVQ level 7 in a discipline other than Social Sciences with 2-year work experience at managerial level in a recognized government or semi-government or private bodies related to the development planning, as determined by the relevant BOS and approved by the Senate, University of Ruhuna.
